2024 Niagara Long Course Distance Select Camp
Saturday, December 28th, 2024
Burt Flickinger Athletic Center, Buffalo, NY

The selection criteria for this long course & distance based camp was based on the top single-age gender (13, 14, 15-18) USA Swimming IMX scores from the 2023-2024 SCY season. Additionally, top distance SCY freestyle athletes were taken into consideration in the selection process.

Our camp had three segments to it, all revolving around long course & distance training and competition:

  • Lectures ft. Guest Speakers
    • Dave Ferris, Head Coach - Long Island Aquatic Club (LIAC)
#6 USA Swimming Gold Medal Podium Club for 2023-24 Season
    • Chuck Batchelor, Head Coach - SwimMAC Carolina
#1 USA Swimming Gold Medal Podium Club for 2023-24 Season
  • In-water Training
    • Phil Baretela, Head Coach - Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
    • Warm-up, technique work, distance related sets.
  • 800 M Freestyle Time Trial (Sanctioned by USA Swimming)

We had 57 athletes representing their clubs from all regions of the LSC (Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, and Southern Tier).

Below is a message we received from the family of one of our participants:

"Thank you for this opportunity for our daughter. She loved every minute of it and will truly take what was learned into her swims each day. Commitment is important to our family. We are working hard to carry that over to our daughter. Your camp validated to our daughter that commitment is a secret ingredient to add into the swim recipe that will show growth in the end. Thank you for all that you did on this day!"

USA Swimming, Speedo, and the Deep End proudly sponsored this event. Speedo provided stopwatches to the camp staff and coaches, the Deep End provided practice suits to all camp participants, and USA Swimming provided t-shirts and notepads.
